Annalee's Story
On November 17th, we recieved some of the worst news any parent could possibly imagine — our daughter, Annalee Hutchins, was diagnosed with Leukemia. Days later, we discovered it was a rare form: Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia.
The next few months were hard. A two-month hospital stay encompassed Annalee’s 7th birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. That was followed by numerous additional admissions due to complications caused by chemotherapy and her compromised immune system. And that made for a lot of sleepless nights.
Thankfully, our girl is resilient. There is currently no evidence of disease in her bone marrow, and though that sounds promising, she has a very long road ahead. Her treatment will last up to 3 more years, and currently involves consistent chemotherapy. Though she reminds us of her strength every day, the reality of the situation is starting to impact her mental health. She’s working through severe anxiety in therapy and has missed out on a lot of childhood milestones.
Fortunately, she has two brothers to play with, who love and support her endlessly. (Though her diagnosis has also affected them.) We’ve also been blessed with a wonderful community to pray for and support us as we learn to navigate life with a sick kiddo. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about our girl and her battle. She is strong. She is a fighter. And one day, she will emerge from this setback with a beautiful story to tell.
