Summer's Story

Summer had Neuroblastoma. She was diagnosed with it back in January of 2022. It started out as trip to Lexington to the children’s hospital because she had stopped being able to feed herself or even walk unassisted she kept falling over and was having really bad tremors all day long. We stayed in the hospital for 3 days was told it was viral and to go home and it should get better. After about another week of it getting even worse we made an appointment with neurology at Vanderbilt children’s hospital where we were hospitalized and they ran the tests and finally after 2 days they came to tell me that summer had a rare autoimmune disorder called opsoclonus myoclonus ataxia syndrome which is widely known to go hand in hand with Neuroblastoma.

She had Neuroblastoma in her adrenal gland. We were there for about a week and a half we did surgery to remove the adrenal gland and had to start getting the OMAS under control. So we did 1 round of chemo and a round of IVIG and steroids and then we took her off of the chemo and it seemed that her symptoms got better from the OMAS and then we got worse again so they put her back on the IVIG for another round where she got better again. Then 2 more times relapsed here recently we have had to put her back on chemo and another round of IVIG which is still happening once a month and we are going to try to start weaning her off again and see if the chemo helped this time.
