Sadie-Lynn's Story

Sadie’s fight started about 1.5 years before she was diagnosed. In August of 2021, Sadie was 9 years old when her and her brother and sister tragically lost their dad to covid. The day after he passed she had also tested positive for covid and was so scared her life was going to be cut short. With taking 2022 and learning we must still learn to step forward and move and smile.

Toward the end of 2022, Sadie caught what we considered a normal cold. It was something she always gotten and didn’t seem to be any different from any other cold she had before but going into 2023, she started complaining of elbow pain but with some steroids she was put on for her cold (she has asthma) the pain went away. She was ok. But back again this pain pain came a few weeks later. We were visiting every urgent care and ER as well as her pediatrician. But no answer. We were once told she had post strep arthritis. But a week past no meds were helping and one day Sadie woke up and couldn’t walk. We were taken to a nearby hospital for 3 weeks. Test after test. But no answers.

One Doctor, a peds rheumatologist said I needed a bone marrow biopsy. See Sadie’s blood work was perfect but a blood smear showed cancer cells. I begged for one and finally got one. We were discharged home with a rare auto immune disorder and 2 days later 4 days before Sadie’s birthday she was diagnosed with high risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She started an aggressive treatment the day before her birthday.

Sadie’s now in maintenance. It hasn’t been easy to get here and we have had many set backs. But this past March Sadie is now dealing with a pseudotumor cerebra (a pocket like tumor of fluid pressing on the nerves in her brain). She now gets this fluid drained every 2 weeks, to prevent damage or vision loss. On top of chemo!
