Rally Kid Jack's Story
Jack was diagnosed with ALL leukemia on October 21, 2020 and here is his story... We thought he had a broken leg and ended up in the Urgent Care. He was moonwalking across the living room and tripped over a little orange bouncy ball. After an X-ray he was put in a splint and had an appointment set up with the orthopedist the following Monday. However; Sunday morning he developed a 105 degree fever and we ended up in the peditrition's office instead. So bloodwork was done to see if an infection was causing the high fevers and we were promply rushed to the Children's Health Care of Atlanta emergency room. His white blood cell counts were triple what they should be. After numerous tests and scans it was determined that he had leukemia. He never even had a broken leg just intense leg pain from the cancer and the X-ray was showing a cluster of leukemia cells. To say the least the wind was knocked out of us! The worst 4 words a parent never wants to hear were spoken to us, "your child has cancer". We spent 21 days in the hopsital, numerous chemo infusions, spinal taps with intrathecal chemo, 2 blood transfusions, 2 platelet transfusions, lots and lots of steriods, a series of shots after an anaphylixis reaction to one of the chemo meds and soooo many pokes I could never begin to count. After 798 days Jack finished treatment on December 28, 2022!!
Jack had been in remission for almost 5 years and off of treatment for almost 3 years!!
