Rally Kid Wesley's Story
In late 2023, we noticed that Wesley just wasn’t himself. Our energetic, LEGO-loving, baseball-playing little boy had started sleeping more and withdrawing from the things he used to love. Over the holidays, he began having intermittent stomach issues that gradually became more persistent. His belly became visibly distended, and he lost his appetite. Something wasn’t right. We took him to urgent care, and they immediately sent us to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. After multiple scans and tests in the ER, doctors discovered an intestinal blockage, but they couldn’t pinpoint the exact cause. It quickly escalated into an emergency. Wesley was rushed into emergency exploratory surgery. That’s when they found it, a tumor completely blocking his intestines - causing intussusception. In the days following surgery, we received a diagnosis no parent ever wants to hear: stage II Burkitt’s lymphoma, a rare and extremely aggressive, but thankfully treatable, form of cancer. Our world turned upside down in an instant. Wesley began intensive chemotherapy immediately. Wesley lived through a nightmare we never could’ve imagined - months filled with fear, intense pain, and uncertainty. At the same time, we were trying to figure out how to parent four children, living in in the hospital full-time, just to make things work. Between hospital rooms, home, school drop-offs, and jobs, we were juggling an impossible situation - trying to hold everything together while one of our children was fighting for his life. And then, in April, Wesley rang the bell. Today, he is in remission. He’s regained his strength, his spark, and his confidence. He plays first base and pitcher on his little league team and is proudly checking things off his bucket list like the brave warrior he is. Wesley is our hero - and now, we’re asking for your help to support the next family going through the unimaginable.
