Rally Kid Dyran's Story
Our 6yr old son was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma in April 2023 when he was just years 4 yrs old. Since then he has undergone 6 rounds of chemotherapy, a 14 hr surgery to resect the cancerous mass (in which he lost his right adrenal gland and right kidney as well) followed by stem cell transplant in the fall of 2023. The stem cell transplant was really hard on him and he ended up getting a small bowel obstruction that required 4 surgeries to correct in an 2 week period all while he was neutropenic. We spent a month in icu and 2 months overall in the hospital (including Halloween 😢). My son almost died. He has undergone 12 sessions of radiation over Christmas 2023 and 6 rounds of immunotherapy treatments last spring. He completed another bowel surgery in April 2024 to reverse his ileostomy. He’s currently taking an oral chemotherapy pill to try and keep the cancer from returning. He has blood work monthly and scans every 3 months. He is treated 3 hrs from home at Vanderbilt so travel expenses for weekly visits are extensive. We are currently dealing with ALL the aftermath from his extensive treatment plan including permanent hearing loss (he wears hearing aids), severe medical ptsd, difficulty regulating his emotions, along with physical and emotional delay.
