Rally Kid Charles' Story

When he was three months old, we noticed a bump on the side of his face, and we took him to the emergency room where we were told it was probably an ear infection or a clogged lymph node, nothing serious. He was put on an antibiotic and we realized after a few weeks it was getting bigger. so we took him back in, as well as we took him to his Doctor Who referred him to an ENT and to a dermatologist. Where we got the same answers, oh, I’m sure it’s fine. It’s probably a bug bite. It’s nothing serious. We took him to children’s healthcare of Atlanta- both hospitals numerous times, in the emergency room. Where we finally got a doctor to say that it needs a biopsy. After his biopsy, we were told that it was a rare form of cancer with tumors his oncologist said she wanted to wait and watch. Which I told her I did not like because of how fast it had already grown over the last few weeks. A couple days later, his whole face was swollen. His neck was swollen and everything we called his oncologist and we started chemo that night. He went through chemo for a year, and he missed his first birthday party because he was in the hospital. Fun fact: He has a twin brother Charles is very loved by our family and our community, he is doing great now and he still goes for scans every three months.
