Chloe was diagnosed at ten months old with an Optic Pathway Glioma, a brain tumor attached to her optic nerve, tract, and chiasm. After noticing her eye shaking and head tilting, her pediatrician sent her to CHOA, where a short MRI turned into four hours and changed everything. Her tumor was stable for over a year until summer 2018, when it grew quickly and Chloe began weekly chemo after a port was placed. In 2019, just shy of completing her first chemo protocol, her tumor grew again. She switched to a new drug and stayed stable through 2020, enjoying seven months off treatment. By June 2021, tumor growth required a third round of chemo—her hardest yet. After nearly two years, she finished in May 2023. That fall, her tumor grew again. An oral chemo failed after 82 days, and in February 2024, a new port was placed for another combo treatment. One of the drugs made her dangerously sick, requiring ICU stays, weight loss, and a feeding tube, so it was stopped while she continued the other. Chloe is now off chemo, though her optic nerve is still thinning despite a stable tumor, and more treatment is likely in the coming months.
