Rally Kid Marty's Story

On January 14th 2025, we brought our 7 month old Marty into the ER at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta after a minor fall at home. Marty was unable to keep any food down, we believed he had a concussion. A CT of Marty’s head was done in the ER, and a large tumor was found in his right ventricle. That night Marty was sent to the PICU. The following days he had an MRI of the brain and spine, an external ventricular drain placed, and a biopsy of the tumor was done. He was discharged from the hospital on January 20th while we waited on biopsy results. Marty had a few happy days at home, as we waited. January 24th Marty was having more vomiting due to his increased intracranial pressure and had to have a shunt placed. A few days later we received the biopsy results and found out that Marty had been diagnosed with a rare cancer in the brain called Choroid Plexus Carcinoma. The cancer had metastasized to his brain stem and spinal cord. Marty’s first dose of chemotherapy was on February 19th. Since starting chemo, Marty Has had many hard days in the hospital dealing with fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. As of July 22, Marty has completed 4- 26 day cycles of chemotherapy. On July 8th Marty had a complete resection of the brain tumor and we praise God for that! Currently Marty is taking a break from chemo to be able to heal from surgery and spend some quality time with his big brother Finn. Marty will have more chemo starting in August. We are so grateful for the army of people standing with us praying for our baby, and supporting us. It’s a scary place to be as parents but so grateful for any support we can get! We’re so blessed that God is allowing us to be Marty’s parents
