Rally Kid Brentley's Story
Brentley was diagnosed with AML Leukemia December 13, 2021. In August 2021 Brentley was excited to start 4th grade at the Senior Academy in Buford. He was a normal 9-year-old, we thought. Brentley had been having some neck discomfort and occasional headaches. Nothing that the doctors were concerned about. December 13th we took him to the ER with a terrible headache. After many tests we got the devastating news of AML Leukemia. That was when we started our Miracle journey.
Brentley had 3 sets of chemo treatments; for each treatment he was in the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks and then home for 2 weeks. Before the end of the 1st chemo series, they told us Brentley was a carrier of a FLT3 gene; therefore, they thought he also needed a Bone Marrow Transplant. He finished his 3 rounds of chemo in April 2022.
In May 2022 Brentley was admitted to the hospital for his Bone Marrow Transplant. The first three days he had full body Radiation treatments twice a day and the next few days he had chemo treatments. His blood cells were completely depleted and destroyed. After these treatments he had his Bone Marrow Infusion. Brentley had a rough road for about 6 weeks but with his FAITH and positive attitude he made it through it. He was in the hospital for about 10 weeks and 5 weeks at the Ronald McDonald House.
At the end of August 2022, Brentley came home. He still went to the clinic frequently. In March of 2023 his blood cells started multiplying. Brentley was able to go back to school In May of 2023.
Brentley will now be entering 8th grade. He enjoyed going to Camp Sunshine this summer as well as Camp Aurora. He also loves to play football and PickleBall. The best news is he is Leukemia free and we are believing it will not return.
