Rally Kid Phoebe's Story

The W of WAGR represents an increased risk for developing Wilm’s, and about half of all WAGR patients will have cancer before the age of 12. In August 2018, at eighteen months old, our routine abdomen ultrasounds showed that Phoebe had developed a tumor on her left kidney, and we promptly began chemo the next week. She had half of her left kidney removed that November and finished her thirteenth dose of chemo in February 2019. Phoebe is now six years cancer free and doing very well! We still do CT and MRI scans of her abdomen every six months to make sure that there is not a recurrence as the odds of Wilm's is still high. We are very thankful that our routine abdomen ultrasounds helped us catch the tumor early as our prognosis was comparatively positive. We also value the access that we have to doctors, specialists, and programs for Phoebe, especially the quality care that we received at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite and the Aflac Cancer Center at Scottish Rite. Furthermore, the support of our community has helped us immensely in more ways than we can describe. We are forever grateful for the love and prayers from those around us as well as the support that we continue to receive for our very special Phabulous Phoebe!
