Rally Kid Charlie's Story

Two weeks before his second birthday, our world turned upside down. Charlie Bec was playing at home when he leapt from the couch to the recliner like Superman and hit his head. What seemed like a simple bump turned into something far more. The ER told us he was fine, but the bruise didn’t look normal, and every night for a week, he ran a low-grade fever. When his pediatrician wouldn’t see him, I trusted my gut and took him to Memorial Children’s Hospital of Savannah. That night, scans revealed not only his injury but also alarming blood counts, and on December 14, 2024, we learned our baby had B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Since then, Charlie has endured more than most adults ever will—countless hospital stays, chemotherapy through his port and into his spine, and even two port surgeries after complications. The toughest phase, Delayed Intensification, brought fatigue, pain, rashes, and dangerously low blood counts, yet he never stopped being the playful, giggling little boy we love. To help him through, we try to give him control wherever we can: decorating his port with fun Band-Aids, blasting his favorite songs as we walk into the hospital, and even letting him shave a teddy bear’s head when his own hair began to fall out. Now, Charlie has completed Delayed Intensification and is in Interim Maintenance 2, one step closer to the maintenance phase that will carry him through the rest of his 2+ year protocol. His journey has shown us the strength of a child, the power of community, and the importance of awareness—because no child should have to be this strong, this soon, and no child should ever fight a Rally alone.By making a donation, you are directly supporting childhood cancer research through the Rally Foundation.

Your donation will contribute to the ongoing efforts to develop better treatments with fewer long-term side effects, and ultimately, find cures for young patients like Charlie. Stand with us in this critical cause and help bring hope to children and families battling cancer.

This year, 47 Faces is more than a campaign — it is a special edition celebrating Rally’s 20th anniversary.
