Rally Kid Cade's Story
Cade was diagnosed with localized Ewing Sarcoma on November 1, 2024. He had been complaining of side pain for a couple of months and we were told to just keep and eye on it by our pediatrician. The pain became worse and more often when a lump appeared. After a long day of X-rays, labs and a CT scan, a large mass was revealed coming from his 5th rib and pushing on his lung. We were told our almost 5 year old child had a large mass that they thought was cancer. Our whole world was flipped upside down. Everything moved very fast with a biopsy, pet scan, port placement and the start of chemo. He has completed 13 of 14 rounds of chemo and will complete his last round August 23 at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. He had surgery at Cleveland Clinic where they removed his 4th, 5th, and 6th ribs along with what was left of the tumor and surrounding tissue and a small piece of his lung the tumor was adhered to. His surgery was successful achieving negative margins and >99% necrosis. He had an excellent response to chemo, but also had many side effects along the way. It has been a long and difficult 9 months, but Cade has kept a positive attitude and we are in awe of his strength throughout his journey. We are so proud of our boy and pray he has a long healthy cancer free life ahead of him!
