Rally Kid Cameron's Story
Cameron was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma in early August 2023, at a little over 2 1/2 years old. He had virtually no symptoms, other than complaining of a slight tummy ache one time. However, upon palpating his abdomen, I could feel a mass and decided to take him to the Emergency Room. In the days following, imaging revealed tumors all throughout his mesentery (the web-like tissue that anchors the intestines), tumors pressing up on his liver, compressing his stomach; and inside of, and around his kidneys, the pathologist stated that the tumors were "too numerous to count". Biopsies, bone marrow aspirates and a lumbar puncture were completed to confirm his diagnosis, however the extent and location of the tumors made them inoperable. He also had a spot in his lower right lung. Burkitt Lymphoma is the most aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma; tumors can double in size within hours. So, Cam immediately underwent an equally aggressive chemotherapy regimen. He completed a four-phase treatment plan (each phase lasted 21 days) in three months and was hospitalized nearly the entire time due to severe side effects.
Following his discharge from the hospital, Cam had to undergo Physical Therapy for six months and visited the Hematology/Oncology Clinic monthly for infusions of IgG to boost his immune system due to the chemotherapy agents suppressing immunity from his bone marrow. His scans in the spring of 2024, following his treatment, showed no evidence of disease, and he rang the bell to celebrate his end of treatment in June 2024. He is still followed by the Immune Dysregulation Oncologist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta but had his final visit with his primary oncologist in June 2025, and graduated to the Survivor's Clinic, where he will be followed for the next five to seven years. We are so grateful for the support of Rally Foundation throughout Cam's treatment and recovery. They were such a blessing to our family. This September, during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, we would like to celebrate his recovery by joining with Rally to reach out and help raise awareness for childhood cancer and support for pediatric cancer research. In order to do that, Cam is part of the Rally 47 Faces Campaign this year. His face represents one of the 47 children who are diagnosed with pediatric cancer every day.
By making a donation, you are directly supporting childhood cancer research through the Rally Foundation. Your donation will contribute to the ongoing efforts to develop better treatments with fewer long-term side effects and ultimately, find cures for brave young patients like Cameron. Stand along with us in this critical cause so close to our hearts and help bring hope to children and families battling cancer.
This year, 47 Faces is more than a campaign; it is a special commemoration celebrating Rally's 20th Anniversary and their unwavering devotion to the children and their families whose lives have been forever changed by pediatric cancer. Give now to honor two decades of progress and help fund the next 20 years of groundbreaking childhood cancer research. Together, we can find better treatments with fewer long-term side effects, and ultimately, cures.
