Rally Kid Kylee Story
Im Kylee Goossen and I was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma right before I turned a year old. My family and I had to travel almost 700 miles for treatment. When we got there one of my eyes was so bad they had to enucleate the one and we started 2 different types of chemotherapy. I was getting systemic chemotherapy and intra-arterial chemotherapy and during my last round of intra-arterial chemotherapy it leaked causing damage to my face and causing me to lose my other eye as well. During that time I got really sick in the hospital after the chemotherapy leakage. I got mold and yeast in my blood and my counts were at 0 for nearly a month so I had nothing to fight these infections and I almost lost my life. But I fought and didn't give up and by God's grace im still here today because doctors didnt think i would make it and couldnt believe after all that I was still here.
Im still having to travel for surgery on my face to fix what the chemotherapy ate up. And I was told in Miami that one thing they could guarantee me was that I would have cancer again so I got to go now each year for a MRI instead of every 3 months like i was having to do for years just to make sure everything was good and i didn't have no reoccurrence of the cancer. But I don't let that slow me down im a 6 year old completely blind happy loving little girl. Im going to 1st grade this year and im extremely smart. I have a loving and very supportive family that I love so very much. I absolutely LOVE music, jumping on my trampoline, swimming, and love hearing stories. I don't let none of what I went through decide how im going to live my life, I know im still here for something great and I know ill always have my family no matter what for any and all journeys good or bad I have ahead.
