Rally Kid Valentino's Story
Valentino was diagnosed with AML leukemia on January 13, 2025, when he was only 12 months and 5 days old. He was truly just a baby when we arrived at the hospital, and along with the leukemia, he was also facing respiratory complications because his blood counts were extremely low. Valentino went through three rounds of chemotherapy, and after those three rounds, he received a cord blood bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, his body rejected that transplant, and his bone marrow became empty again. As his last chance to save his life, he underwent one more round of chemotherapy and radiation. His older sister, who was only four years old at the time, became his only option and was his donor for his second transplant. After the second transplant, everything went incredibly well, and we were so grateful that it worked. We have now spent almost 12 months out of the hospital, continuing his recovery through regular checkups and appointments. His cancer has not returned since last year, and we are approaching almost a full year cancer-free.
Throughout this journey, we also faced many other complications, including bacteria and infections, as well as liver damage, among other challenges. Thankfully, we are now getting through many of those complications and continuing to move forward. We spent about 10 months away from our home during this journey, but despite everything he went through, Valentino was always such a happy child during his time in the hospital. He always had a smile for everyone and always wanted to play. He would ride his little bicycle through the hospital hallways while connected to all of his IV lines and cables, and everyone would wave and say hello to “Tino.” ❤️
Today, Valentino is an incredibly strong and happy little boy. He loves spending time with his family and enjoys life so much. He loves music, baseball, dancing, and, most of all, being surrounded by lots of love. ❤️
