#RallyKid Xander

In January of 2019, at three years old, Xander was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma after seven months of consistent back pain. A large tumor was found in his chest, leading to the diagnosis. Scans revealed the cancer had already spread to his legs, hips, spine, shoulders, and skull. Xander had a Hickman line placed in his chest and quickly began chemotherapy treatments. That year, Xander underwent multiple chemotherapy cycles, surgeries, injections, stem cell transplants, feeding tube placements, and long hospital stays. He also experienced hearing loss as a side effect of treatment. Despite everything he endured, the cancer did not respond to treatment. After the known treatments for Neuroblastoma were exhausted, Xander participated in a clinical trial as a last resort. This also provided no improvements. Today, Xander still has cancer in the same areas it was found, but it has not spread. His medical team refer to him as a miracle child – a fitting description for someone who has defied the odds of this unforgiving disease. Xander has a love for learning, creating, and being active!
