#RallyKid Chloe

Chloe was diagnosed at just ten months old with an aggressive optic pathway glioma—a brain tumor affecting her optic nerve, tract, and chiasm. For a few weeks prior, we noticed one of her eyes would shake, and she would tilt her head to the side. Thankfully, her pediatrician took our concerns seriously and referred us to CHOA. What was supposed to be a 45-minute MRI turned into four hours. When two nurses and the radiologist brought Chloe back and quietly shut the door, our world shifted. We left that day with very few answers. Chloe’s tumor was monitored every three months and remained stable until the summer of 2018. However, between July and September 2018, her tumor showed significant growth. In October, her oncology team decided it was time to begin chemotherapy. Chloe had a port placed and started weekly treatments. In October 2019, Chloe’s MRI showed major tumor growth. She began a new chemotherapy regimen and remained stable on it for a year, completing treatment at the end of 2020. In June 2021, due to further tumor growth, Chloe began her third round of chemotherapy. This was her toughest battle yet. She completed this round in May 2023 and was able to have her port removed. In late October 2023, an MRI showed tumor growth once more. Chloe started an oral chemotherapy, but her body reacted severely, and she had to stop after just 82 days. In February 2024, she began another chemotherapy combination. After two lengthy hospitalizations—including time in the ICU, significant weight loss, and the need for a feeding tube—her team discontinued one of the drugs. In September 2025, due to continued vision loss and thinning of her optic nerve, Chloe experienced another relapse. She restarted a chemotherapy that had been used previously. After six months of treatment, her vision has stabilized and may even be improving. Chloe is the strongest fighter we know. She has faced more than any child should, yet continues to meet each challenge with courage and a smile. She loves playing with her dolls, is excelling in school, and has discovered a love for karate. Through every setback and every victory, Chloe continues to inspire us all.
